Attributes in OpenCart are used to describe the characteristics of a product, such as size, weight, color and any other characteristics of the product that have the potential to be comparable between different products. Try to create universal attributes that are consistent across product-specific categories. For example, if your store sells computer monitors, you can create a 'screen resolution' attribute. This attribute must be added consistently to all of the computer monitor products in your store. A person is more likely to compare two computer monitors, rather than comparing a computer monitor and a random product with different attributes.
The steps to follow, to make use of these functions of OpenCart are the following:
A group of attributes contains product feature names, which can then be compared in the Product Comparison section or as part of their description.
To create an attribute group, go to Catalog> Attributes> Attribute Group and click the "Insert" or "Edit" button. The form contains the following fields:
Attribute group name: This is the name of the attribute group.
Sorting Order: The sort order will affect the arrangement of attributes in the "Product Comparison" section; As well as the list of attributes in the tab of a product.
The next step is to create the specific attributes. You can go to the Catalog section> Attributes> Attributes
Click on the "Insert" or "Edit" button. The form contains the following fields:
Attribute Name: Name of the attribute.
Attribute group: Attribute group that has previously been registered.
Sorting order: Sorting order will affect the arrangement of attributes within your group.
Now that we have the attributes created, we need to edit the individual products to contain these attributes. To add attributes directly to a product, go to Catalog> Products and click the "Insert" or "Edit" button.
In the Attributes tab, we add the attributes that we have previously registered. When we start typing the attribute name, the system will populate the field by looking for the previously registered attributes.
The description of the attribute, ie its value, must be added manually, so we add the corresponding text.
Now that we have created a group of attributes, assigned attributes to this group, and associated these to different products providing a value for them, we can go to the store and visualize the attributes.
For this, we go to the store and visit the tab of a product to which we have previously assigned attributes.
Our customers can now make a more successful decision with their purchase by comparing the attributes of our products. Understanding how to use groups of attributes and attributes with products can help raise the level of customer satisfaction and the number of sales in your store.
